DRAKA S1NGLE: Networking made easy

The trend in industry and buildings is clearly moving towards digitalisation and networking. Smart factories and buildings can be realised more easily and cost-efficiently through the Internet of Things (IoT). The use of Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) creates the basis for barrier-free networking of different components and devices. To enable the fast, broad and secure implementation of IoT in industry and buildings, the Multimedia Solutions (MMS) BU of the Prysmian Group has developed the Draka S1NGLE cable series as a partner of the SPE System Alliance.

The cable series includes high-performance SPE cables for Industrial IoT and Building IoT environments in different versions: Draka S1NGLE cables with 20 MHz bandwidth for fixed installation as well as connecting cables matching 10BaseT1 (10 Mbps) channels, and S1NGLE PLUS cables with 600 MHz bandwidth for 100BaseT1 (100 Mbps) and 1000BaseT1 (1 Gpbs) according to IEC 61156-11, -13 and -14 standards. Draka SPE cables support PoDL (Power over Data Line) classes 6/8, 10/15 and 10/13 with up to 30 watts. The single-pair copper cable therefore transmits data and power in parallel within the pairs. The maximum link lengths between the active components vary between 15 and 1000 metres, depending on the S1NGLE cable model selected and the PSE equipment used. More about the individual models:

Industrial networking

In the industrial sector, it's all about bringing together and simplifying different solutions. SPE offers continuous IP communication from the field level to the enterprise level and thus from the sensor to the cloud. Via the IP protocol, sensors, cameras, reading and identification devices or machine controls are networked across all levels via the local infrastructure. This is crucial for Industry 4.0 and new applications that control factory processes. Application-specific fieldbus systems are no longer required, and with them gateways, complex interfaces and different protocols. Nevertheless, some S1NGLE models offer backwards compatibility with older BUS cabling technologies. This is perfect for anyone who wants to remain future-proof during the transition phase.

Networking in offices

Building IoT integrates parallel building systems, for example for heating, lighting or blinds, via structured ceiling cabling. With the so-called 'Digital Ceiling', intelligent building automation via IP can be seamlessly united. This simplifies installation, maintenance, network management and the implementation of an infrastructure for a true smart building environment.

The different environmental conditions in industry and buildings place very specific demands on the mechanical, chemical, thermal, fire and electromagnetic resistance of SPE cables. The Draka-S1NGLE cable series meets these requirements safely and reliably. With the cables, MMS guarantees its customers economical, future-proof and consistent networking - from building technology to sensor technology in the field.
